Dollar Thrifty was established in 1995 as Malone Car Rental Ireland by Joe Malone, former Director General of Bord Fáilte. In 1998 Colm Menton, the current Chief Executive, acquired the company with the Keary Motor Group.

In February 2002, Malone Car Rental Ireland took over the Thrifty franchise in the Republic of Ireland. This has provided a world-wide platform for Malone Car Rental and is an indication of our dedication to providing superior quality and customer service.

Since then the company has grown substantially with a peak car fleet that boasts 1,500 vehicles. The business base has been expanded to include the corporate sector and van rental. The company has offices in Dublin City, Dublin Airport, Cork , Cork Airport and Shannon Airport.

The Dollar franchise was also taken over by Malone Thrifty in 2004. This coincided with Colm Menton buying out the Keary Group and bringing in Hyundai Distributors as partners.

Dollar Thrifty Car Rental (DTAG) has extensive experience in dealing with foreign markets. Our impressive customer base includes tour operators and travel agents from Europe, North America and Australia.
