Situated in the south of Ireland in the province of Munster, Cork is the second city in the Republic of Ireland and the city with the third largest population on the island of Ireland after Dublin and Belfast with a population in the greater area of 380,000. Cork sits on the banks of the River Lee as it flows into Lough Mahon and then into Cork Harbour which is one of the world's largest natural harbours.

The history of Cork dates back to Saint Finbarr who established a monastery on the location that is now Cork City. During its history, Cork was continually under attack by both the Vikings and the Normans which resulted in much of the historic city being destroyed. In modern Irish history, Cork played a pivotal role during the War of Independence and during the Irish Civil War.

During 2005 Cork was awarded the European capital of Culture in recognition of its strong tradition in music, dance and theatre. For those interested in Irish culture, Cork City is a must see area. There are many other tourist attractions to be seen in Cork City such as the Cork Vision Center, Elizabet Fort, St Finbarrs Cathedral, Shandon Church, Cork City Gaol and the Cork Historic Walking Tours.

One of the best ways of seeing Cork City and the surrounding areas is to rent a car at either Cork Airport or Cork City. If you have any questions about our car rental in Cork services, or are looking for more information about Ireland please do not hesitate to contact us.
