Dublin Airport Upgrade Works
Since the 1980s passenger figures at Dublin Airport have grown each year. In 2006 passenger numbers increased by 15% to over 21million people, ranking Dublin Airport among the 10 busiest airports in Europe. Every day there are over 600 aircraft movements in Dublin Airport. Investment in infrastructure at Dublin Airport fell behind the growth of passenger numbers during the mid 1980s. Today Dublin Airport is undergoing a massive upgrade of its facilities and infrastructure aimed at improving facilities and passenger comfort.
Terminal 1
As part of the general upgrade of infrastructure in Dublin Airport, Terminal 1 will receive a massive upgrade with an investment of several hundred million euro. It is expected that the upgrade work on Terminal 1 will be completed during 2008.
Terminal 2
Terminal 2 (T2) is a new and additional terminal that will ideally open in late 2009. Terminal 2 will carry additional 15million passengers per year to both long and short haul destinations. The terminal will over a spacious and comfortable environment for passengers. T2 will have also 9,000 sq metres of retail and catering outlets.Pier D
Construction work at Pier D has already begun at Dublin Airport. The pier will open late in 2007 and will be a 15,000sq meter boarding gate resource. Access to Pier D will be via a raised walkway that will pass by the original Dublin Airport building. It is planned that Pier D will service short haul / low cost flights mainly and will handle 10million people annually.Parallel Runway
Construction on a new runway at Dublin Airport was given the go ahead by Fingal County Council during 2006. It is expected that the new runway will be operational by 2012 and will allow Dublin Airport to increase their passenger capacity to 60million annually. The runway will be designed to be able to service the new range of long range aircraft such as the new Airbus A380.
