There is a new speed limit for Dublin City Center being introduced by Dublin City Council. The current speed limit of 50 km/h is going to be reduced to 30 km/h in an effort to improve road safety in the city center for both pedestrians and cyclists.
Already in Dublin City Center, there are speed limits of 30km/h in force on O'Connell, Street, Temple Bar and parts of Talbot Street.
The reduction of the current speed limits will mean certain roads such as Westmoreland St, Dame St, D'Olier St and the quays will need to be delisted as national primary routes. The proposal has been greeted well by motoring organisations and the Road Safety Authority.
The scheme would mean a 40% reduction from the present 50km/hour limit and operate in an area running from the Four Courts to the Customs House and from St Stephen's Green to Parnell Square.
