Ireland's Top Festivals
The Irish people are a fun-loving race and do not need much of an excuse to throw a party. All year, and especially in summer, you will find all kinds of festivals and events to keep you entertained.
In fact, even the smallest villages in Ireland have at least one event each year where the locals and visitors alike take to the streets for a bit of ‘craic’.
No matter what time of the year you visit Ireland, you should be able to find a festival of some kind. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of such events in Ireland each year. They are too numerous to list them all here but here are some of the bigger ones:
St Patrick’s Day Festival – This is the big one. Every year on March 17 the people of Ireland celebrate their national day. You will find parades and entertainment in every city, town and village in the country. Dublin has, without a doubt the most spectacular celebration in the country and the party goes on until the early hours.
The Rose of Tralee – Every August, Ireland’s prettiest young ladies and lovely women of Irish descent from around the world vie to be crowned the Rose of Tralee. This beauty pageant with an Irish twist is aired live on national television as contestants try to impress judges with their beauty, charm and talent.
Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival – If you’re looking for that special person in your life then why not try your luck at Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival. Each summer the town is overrun with bachelors and bachelorettes, and those just looking to have a bit of fun.
Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann – Every August Ireland’s most talented traditional musicians come together for this celebration of Irish music and culture. If you want a taste of traditional Irish music, this is the place to be.
These are just four of the most popular festivals in the country, but there is so much more to choose from. For information about renting a car in Ireland from Thrifty, please do not hesitate to contact us.
