Known for its easy going atmosphere and a distinctly “bohemian vibe,” Galway is one of the hot spots of Ireland’s arts culture. Visitors can expect to be treated to the colourful and the memorable when they come to Galway, but they don’t have to be art connoisseurs to appreciate all that this unique city has to offer.
The Galway Arts Festival is surely one of the highlights of the summer, and any tourist who can arrange to be present for the duration will not be disappointed. Artists of all sorts —performers, writers, musicians and, of course, visual artists— come from all over the world to participate in this celebration, and the event will not be soon forgotten. Those visiting with children may also find it worthwhile to schedule a visit in October, when they may take advantage of the Baboro International Arts Festival, an event which features a host of talented international performers in over forty productions put on for school-aged children.
If arts are not quite your thing, you may still be captivated by one of the many other events to which the city plays host. There are several regattas, and visitors of all ages will likely be delighted by the boat festivals hosted by the city. The Galway Races have long been a popular attraction, and come July and August guests can treat themselves to one of the largest race festivals in the country. So seriously do the locals take this event that the city largely closes down for the better part of the race week, so if you are coming in on business, better pick another time!
With a little something for everybody, Galway is a city with a vibrant culture and the people to match. Guests of all ages will come away from Galway with memories to last a lifetime, more often than not wishing they never had to leave. Although Thrifty Car Rental in Ireland do not offer a location in Galway, Galway is connected by excellent roads from both our Dublin Airport and Shannon Airport offices.
