Age Requirements

Details the minimum age requirements for each class of vehicle

Airport Surcharge

A surcharge of €22 plus VAT charged to customers collecting their car at the airport

Additional Driver Surcharge

The cost of adding additional drivers to your rental

Basic Rate

The rate quoted is the basic rate and includes unlimited mileage, CDW, 24 hour breakdown cover and theft protection

Baby Seats

Baby seats supplied by Thrifty Car Rental are for children aged from 9 months to 4 years of age (9 - 18kgs)

Booster Seats

The booster seats are suitable for children aged from 2 years to 8 years

Credit Card

The main driver must be a holder of a credit card from MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Diners Club.

CDW (Collision Damage Waiver)

Basic insurance that covers damage to the rental vehicle

Cancellation Insurance

An insurance that allows you to recoup all costs of your rental when cancelled up to 24 hours before pick up time

Confirmation

Your rental is confirmation when you receive a reservation number and a deposit has been taken from your credit card.

Driving License

To rent a car from Thrifty, all drivers must have a full, unendorsed driving license that has been held for 2 years. Please see our frequently asked questions for full details of our driving license requirements

Deposit / Cancellation Policy

A 15% fee is charged to customers who cancel their rental up to 24 hours prior to collection. Rentals not cancelled before this point will result in a loss of your deposit

Debit Cards

Thrifty car rental does not accept debit cards

Endorsements

An endorsement on a driving license is a record of a motoring conviction

Excess/Deductible

All cars have an excess/deductible which is liable in the case of damage to the vehicle

Fuel Policy

Thrifty car rental request that customer pre pay for a tank of fuel and return the car empty. If customers don't prepay for the tank of fuel, they are asked to bring the car back with the same level of fuel to avoid a refuelling charge.

Flight Information

For all airport collections, you must provide us with the correct flight number to enable our rental staff keep up to date with flight times (If we do not received this information in time, we cannot take responsibility for a failed rental)

GPS

GPS units with up to date mapping software are offered at all locations

Grace Period

A one hour grace period is provided for when returning the car. Returns outside of this one hour grace period will be charged an extra days rental

Gold Card

The Thrifty Gold Card offers discounts to members and is free to join

International Driving Permit

International Driving Permits must be accompanied with the domestic license and is required when the domestic license is not in English

M50 Toll

All tolls for crossing the M50 toll bridge are paid by Thrifty Car Rental and subsequently charged to your rental contract

Northern Ireland

If planning to drive in Northern Ireland, an additional fee is added to the rental

One Way Rentals

One way rentals are all allowed between branches. Please see our frequently asked questions for up to date information on the applicable charges

Out of Hours Fee

Rentals being collected outside our opening hours are charged an additional fee to cover the additional expense of dropping the car to a car park for collection (All requests are on a request basis only, you must contact our reservations department to confirm before making your booking)

Personal Benefits Membership

Personal Benefits Membership is an insurance that covers you for damage to items not covered under credit card insurance

Personal Accident Insurance

It is recommended that the driver has Personal Accident Insurance

Rental Agreement

The rental agreement is the document you are required to sign upon collection of the car

Rental Period

All rates quoted are based on 24 hour rental periods

Super Damage Waiver

Super Damage Waiver is an additional insurance that reduce your excess / liability

Theft Protection

Theft Protection insurance covers damage to the car arising from theft or attempted theft

Third Party Insurance

Third Party Insurance covers the passengers of the rental vehicle, but not the driver, and any parties outside of the vehicle

Traffic Fines

Traffic fines for speeding and parking offenses are the responsibility of the main renter and will be charged to your credit card when received

Unlimited Mileage

All cars are rented with unlimited mileage

Upgrade

Customers can choose to upgrade to a large vehicle upon arrival, the cost of which will be paid locally

VAT

VAT is charged at 13.5% and is included in the basic rate

Voucher

Many tour operators may provide you with a voucher including the details of your booking. If provided with a voucher, please present it upon arrival to our rental staff.
