The International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) is situated very close to Dublin City Centre and beside the Custom House and is the main location for financial services in Ireland. The Irish Government established the IFSC in 1987 in response to strong worldwide growth in the financial services sector
The area is home to most of the leading financial institutions in the world. The IFSC is typified by striking modern architecture and was part of the continued rejuvenation plan for the dockland area of Dublin. Extensive resident apartments, shops and bars were also constructed in the area to ensure it had a culture and atmosphere of its own. There are just under 450 international financial institutions based in the IFSC. The idea for the IFSC was that of Dermot Desmond who is a famous and very wealthy person in Ireland.
Since the inauguration of the IFSC, it has been a fantastic success for the Irish economy. Annually about one trillion (1,000,000,000,000) euro is handled by the IFSC.
The Thrifty car rental in Dublin depot is located within a five minute walk from the IFSC over the pedestrian bridge.
