London City to JFK via Shannon Airport

British Airways will begin operating a business only flight from London City to JFK later this year. The service will be in direct competition to the other business only flights from Stansted and Luton airports. The airline will over a fifteen minute check in service, and when coupled with its location in the heart of the financial district in London provides a very interesting product.

British Airways will operate the Airbus A318 on the route with just 32 seats on board. Due to constrictions on the length of the runway in London City, the service will have to refuel at Shannon Airport during outbound flights while return flights will be able to fly directly from JFK to London City.

Shannon Airport offers US Customs pre-clearance which will allow passengers to clear customs while the aircraft is being refuelled and thus avoiding long custom cues in JFK which can take hours.

“This niche service will fly passengers between the heart of the two largest financial centres in the world. We will offer a 15 minute check-in for customers in both London and New York and, with a maximum of 32 passengers onboard, getting on and off the aircraft will be a smooth process."  - Willie Walsh (BA Chief Executive

The return leg is an ideal proposition for US business passengers travelling to London City where the estimated travel time including check in is well under eight hours.
