The Road Safety Authority or RSA was established on 1 September 2006 under the Road Safety Authority Act of 2006. The RSA is charged with the duty or increasing road safety in Ireland and thereby reducing the death toll and injuries on Irish roads.
These targets will be met be introducing international best practices into Ireland and to provide an environment for all road users that maximise safety and provides for efficient use of the road network.
These best practices include:
Promotion of road safety Accident and road safety research Driver testing and licensing Vehicle Standards Road Haulage enforcement functions Registration of driving instructors Driver vocational training Compulsory basic training for motorcyclist
