Touring Ireland - Cork and Kerry
The south of Ireland offers some of the most stunning scenery in the country with mountains, ancient forests, lakes and sea view, and there is no better way to take in all the sights than touring by car.
Whether you arrive at Cork, which is at the heart of the region, or land at Shannon Airport or Dublin Airport, you will have countless car rental options available if you have not brought your own vehicle.
Thrifty Car Rentals offers excellent value for money and a range of vehicles to choose from. It has outlets at Cork, Shannon and Dublin Airports, as well as in Cork and Dublin city centres.
We have already devoted an entire article on this website to the region’s most famous driving route, The Ring of Kerry. Here we look a couple of lesser known, but equally picturesque routes:

West Cork drive – West Cork has long been famous for its beautiful scenery and charming coastal towns. Our suggested route takes in the entire West Cork coast and we recommend that you do it over two days so you can really appreciate the charm of the area.
Starting in Cork City head south to Kinsale and then west to Clonakilty, take in the beautiful beaches in the area and continue to Skibereen, Ballydehob and on to Schull, a charming seaside town that would make a perfect stop for the night. From there explore the beautiful Mizen Peninsula taking in Goleen, Barleycove and Crookhaven. On returning to Ballydehob head north to Bantry and strike home for Cork city passing through inland towns Dunmanway and Bandon.

The Dingle Peninsula – This is another favourite among visitors to southern Ireland. Combining beautiful beaches such as Inch, amazing views around every corner and the charming town of Dingle this makes a perfect day trip from Killarney or Tralee. There is plenty of quality accommodation in Killarney such as Kathleen's Country House.
These are just two scenic drives you could take, but to be honest the choice is endless.
