Connacht is one of the four provinces in Ireland, and encompasses the counties of Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo. The name is derived from the mythical Conn, with Connacht literally meaning the descendents of Conn. Connacht is probably the province that has been least effected by the Celtic Tiger, and as such has managed to retain all of its beauty and charm.
There are many attractions in Connacht that are work seeing. In terms of cities and towns, both Galway and Sligo are big draws with an endless list of things to do. For those interested in Hill Walking, Mweelrea is simply stunning and from the top you can see the numerous Islands dotted around Clew Bay. No matter what you are looking for, Connacht has something to offer the entire family. Most people planning to tour Connacht with their rental car will pick up their car at Dublin Airport, and travel across Ireland to either Sligo or Galway as their starting point.
