      <description><![CDATA[A complete ban on the advertising of tobacco in shops came into force in Ireland on 1 July 2009. The implementation of this ban makes Ireland the first country in the EU to introduce a blanket ban.

It was expected that the Duty free shops at Dublin Airport, Cork Airport and Shannon Airport would have been exempt from the ban, but the Government failed to introduce expected legislation in time for the bans introduction.]]></description>

These charges are on top of the expected increase in charges during 2011 when Terminal 2 is opened under the draft proposal by CAR. The second proposed increase would enable the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) to recoup the costs of its investment in the new terminal.]]></description>

The DAA operates the three main airports in Ireland and last week forecasted an 11% decrease in passenger numbers for 2009 in their annual report. Minimal passenger growth is expected up to 2011 and losses are forecasted for both 2009 and 2010.]]></description>
