Like all international airports, the security check through process at Dublin Airport is strict. You will have to proceed through a number of security checks. These checkpoints are largely concerned with what is and is not permitted on the airplane itself under the EU Security Regulations.

The main departures hall in Dublin Airport is located on the first floor of the main terminal building. While there are other check in areas operational during peak periods, these are all well signposted and the main departures hall is probably going to be the point of arrivals for most people.

Ryanair to Scale Back Services at Dublin & Shannon Airports

In protest against the €10 travel tax, Ryanair is planning to scale back services operating from both Dublin and Shannon Airports. One Aircraft is being removed from both Dublin Airport and Shannon Airport for the winter schedule which is operational from October. There will only be 16 aircraft operating from Dublin Airport and 3 from Shannon Airport from October.

Tobacco Products Display Ban to Effect Duty Free Shops

A complete ban on the advertising of tobacco in shops came into force in Ireland on 1 July 2009. The implementation of this ban makes Ireland the first country in the EU to introduce a blanket ban. It was expected that the Duty free shops at Dublin Airport, Cork Airport and Shannon Airport would have been exempt from the ban, but the Government failed to introduce expected legislation in time for the bans introduction.

Expected Increase in Dublin Airport Passenger Charges

Passenger charges at Dublin Airport are expected to rise by 13% or by €1 during 2010 based on proposed increases announced by the Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR). These charges are on top of the expected increase in charges during 2011 when Terminal 2 is opened under the draft proposal by CAR. The second proposed increase would enable the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) to recoup the costs of its investment in the new terminal.

British Airways will begin operating a business only flight from London City to JFK later this year. The service will be in direct competition to the other business only flights from Stansted and Luton airports. DAA Seeks Redundancies

In the face of decreasing passenger numbers and a forecasted earnings shortfall in the region of €70 million during 2009, the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) is seeing 400 redundancies. The DAA operates the three main airports in Ireland and last week forecasted an 11% decrease in passenger numbers for 2009 in their annual report. Minimal passenger growth is expected up to 2011 and losses are forecasted for both 2009 and 2010.

Shop & Collect Service Launched by DAA

This service will allow passengers to purchase an item on the outbound leg of their journey, but collect the item on return to Dublin Airport. Minor changes were made to the Mobile / Cell Phone Rental page on Thrifty Car Rental to reflect the fact mobile phones can now be rented along with a car rental by contacting our reservations staff.

Dublin Airport Car Parking Change Log

The changes to the Dublin Airport Car Parking page include the addition of a new type of car parking service being offered at Dublin Airport. This new service (Airport Car Parking Site) offers car parking at discount rates by utilising unused car parking spots at nearby hotels. In the near future a booking engine will be added to the Thrifty Car Rental Dublin Airport car parking page which will allow you to book your car parking online using this new service.

A series of updates have recently been made to the homepage of Thrifty Car Rental Ireland (http://www.thrifty.ie) which include the addition of the following:

1 - A link to the RSA (Road Safety Authority) section
2 - A link to Van Rental Ireland
3 - The addition of a button to the Mobile Phone Rental section of Thrifty Car Rental Ireland.

Other updates include changes to the number on the annimation beneath the booking engine and updated customer comments.
